5 Steps to create your video pitch.
Passion + Personality + Professionalism = Success
Okay, its time to get the show on the road and create your Video pitch.
Follow my 5 Step guide and make a great, professional video pitch that represents not only your skills but your passions and personality. So, let’s get started!
Step 1 – Prepare your script – Make sure your script is simple, honest and engaging. This is not the time to blurt out a detailed report of your last 5 years’ experience. Resist the urge to narrate your resume. Recruiters want to hear in your own words WHY you’re qualified for the position.
Most interviews begin with the infamous “Tell me about yourself” question. Recruiters ask this question so that they can hear how you represent yourself, your skills and your passions. So, let’s start there…
Introduce yourself using only your first name. Be clear about the position you are applying for and what sort of company you want to be a part of.
- Highlight 2 of your strongest Relevant skills and mention HOW you applied these skills and achieved a great result.
- Passion – Tell us what you are passionate about and don’t be afraid to get personal with a story. “I grew up in a rural area and I was fortunate enough to fall in love with organic ingredients. It ignited my passion for cooking and inspired me to become a Chef”. OR maybe mention some charitable work that you did… “It’s in my nature to help people. I volunteer whenever I can at the Red Cross because It gives me real joy to help people and make a small difference in somebody’s life”. Don’t forget to tie in your backstory to the job.
- End strong with a Power sentence – Give the employer a strong reason explaining WHY you are able to thrive in this job.
And that’s it. The pitch should be about 45 seconds to 60 seconds max. Short and sweet!
Step 2 – Set the stage – This step is simple but very necessary. Have a look around and remember, this is a video. Make sure your backdrop is as plain as possible with no clutter or distracting painting. Just plain and simple and most importantly in a very QUIET area. Also, let everyone around you know that your space if off limits while you are filming.
Step 3 – Look the part – You need to be dressed and groomed as if it’s your first day on the job. Make an effort and remember who will be viewing the pitch.
Step 4 – Memorize your pitch but remember, you need to say it with meaning as if you are speaking to a real person. Make cue cards that can be stuck near the camera just in case you need key reminders. Practice makes perfect, and the best place to practice is in front of a mirror. Create your Video Pitch by speaking passionately and get it right. You will know instantly when you are ready.
Step 5 – Its showtime – make sure you are feeling great and hyped to pitch. Get some help if you need someone to film you. But most importantly, don’t panic. You can shoot your pitch 10 times if you need to, so don’t panic.
You did it! Congratulations, you’ve just taken a giant leap to forward your career. All you need to do now is post it where the world can find it.
